A euphorbiaceous shrub of the genus Pedilanthus (P.
tithymaloides), found in the West Indies, and possessing
powerful emetic and drastic qualities.

The male is black, with large patches of orange-red on
the sides, wings, and tail. The female is olive, with
yellow patches.
