A fruit bat, especially the large species (Pieropus vulgaris) inhabiting the islands of the Indian ocean. It measures about a yard across the expanded wings. 2. (Zo["o]l.) Any small shark of the genus Scyllium; -- called also dogfish. See Dogfish.
