An edible fresh-water New Zealand fish (Prototroctes
oxyrhynchus) of the family Haplochitonid[ae]. In general
appearance and habits, it resembles the northern lake
whitefishes and trout. Called also grayling.

to the trout, but having a very broad dorsal fin; --
called also umber. It inhabits cold mountain streams,
and is valued as a game fish.
