digitus finger.] (Anat.)
Having an odd number of fingers or toes, either one, three,
or five, as in the horse, tapir, rhinoceros, etc.

4. [OE.; cf. Icel. titter a tit or small bird. The word
probably meant originally, something small, and is perhaps
