A flowerless plant (Marchantia polymorpha), having an irregularly lobed, spreading, and forking frond. Note: From this plant many others of the same order (Hepatic[ae]) have been vaguely called liverworts, esp. those of the tribe Marchantiace[ae]. See Illust. of Hepatica.
