Myrsiphyllum asparagoides Smilax Smi"lax, n. [L., bindweed, Gr. ???.] (Bot.)
(a) A genus of perennial climbing plants, usually with a
prickly woody stem; green brier, or cat brier. The
rootstocks of certain species are the source of the
medicine called sarsaparilla.
(b) A delicate trailing plant (Myrsiphyllum asparagoides)
much used for decoration. It is a native of the Cape of
Good Hope.

A division of Arachnoidea, including the daddy longlegs or
harvestman (Phalangium) and many similar kinds. They have
long, slender, many-jointed legs; usually a rounded,
segmented abdomen; and chelate jaws. They breathe by
trache[ae]. Called also Phalangides, Phalangidea,
Phalangiida, and Opilionea.

An order of irregular sea urchins, usually having a more or
less heart-shaped shell with four or five petal-like
ambulacra above. The mouth is edentulous and situated
anteriorly, on the under side.

1. One who plays on a fiddle or violin.
2. (Zo["o]l.) A burrowing crab of the genus Gelasimus, of
many species. The male has one claw very much enlarged,
and often holds it in a position similar to that in which
a musician holds a fiddle, hence the name; -- called also
calling crab, soldier crab, and fighting crab.
3. (Zo["o]l.) The common European sandpiper (Tringoides
hypoleucus); -- so called because it continually
oscillates its body.
