Praetexta Pr[ae]*tex"ta, n.; pl. Pr[ae]text[ae], E. Pr[ae]textas. [L. (sc. toga), fr. praetextus, p. p. of praetexere to weave before, to fringe, border; prae before + texere to weave.] (Rom. Antiq.)
