Ephemeris E*phem"e*ris, n.; pl. Ephemerides. [L., a diary, Gr. ?, also, a calendar, fr. ?. See Ephemera.] 1. A diary; a journal. --Johnson. 2. (Anat.) (a) A publication giving the computed places of the heavenly bodies for each day of the year, with other numerical data, for the use of the astronomer and navigator; an astronomical almanac; as, the ``American Ephemeris and Nautical Almanac.' (b) Any tabular statement of the assigned places of a heavenly body, as a planet or comet, on several successive days. 3. (Literature) A collective name for reviews, magazines, and all kinds of periodical literature. --Brande & C.

Hesperides Hes*per"i*des, n. pl. [L., fr. Gr. ?.] 1. (Class. Myth.) The daughters of Hesperus, or Night (brother of Atlas), and fabled possessors of a garden producing golden apples, in Africa, at the western extremity of the known world. To slay the guarding dragon and get some of these apples was one of the labors of Hercules. Called also Atlantides. 2. The garden producing the golden apples. M cancerides
Mygale Myg"a*le, n. [L., a field mouse, Gr. ?.] (Zo["o]l.) A genus of very large hairy spiders having four lungs and only four spinnerets. They do not spin webs, but usually construct tubes in the earth, which are often furnished with a trapdoor. The South American bird spider (Mygale avicularia), and the crab spider, or matoutou (M. cancerides) are among the largest species. Some of the species are erroneously called tarantulas, as the Texas tarantula (M. Hentzii).
