Strong excitement; wild enthusiasm; madness. The popular delirium [of the French Revolution] at first caught his enthusiastic mind. --W. Irving. [L., trembling delirium] (Med.), a violent delirium induced by the excessive and prolonged use of intoxicating liquors.
