An instrument invented by Sir David Brewster, which contains
loose fragments of colored glass, etc., and reflecting
surfaces so arranged that changes of position exhibit its
contents in an endless variety of beautiful colors and
symmetrical forms. It has been much employed in arts of
design.

An instrument, consisting of a tube having one end open and
the other end covered with a thin flexible membrance to the
center of which is attached a small mirror. It is used for
exhibiting upon a screen, by means of rays reflected from the
mirror, the vibratory motions caused by sounds produced at
the open end of the tube, as by speaking or singing into it.

An instrument for studying the motions of sounding bodies by
optical means. It consists of a tube across the end of which
is stretched a film of soap solution thin enough to give
colored bands, the form and position of which are affected by
sonorous vibrations.
