[L. paracletus, Gr. ?, from ? to call to one, to exhort, encourage; ? beside + ? to call.] An advocate; one called to aid or support; hence, the Consoler, Comforter, or Intercessor; -- a term applied to the Holy Spirit. From which intercession especially I conceive he hath the name of the Paraclete given him by Christ. --Bp. Pearson.
