Macacus Ma*ca"cus, n. [NL., a word of African origin. Cf. Macaco, Macaque.] (Zo["o]l.) A genus of monkeys, found in Asia and the East Indies. They have short tails and prominent eyebrows.

Moor grass (Bot.), a tufted perennial grass (Sesleria c[ae]rulea), found in mountain pastures of Europe. Moor hawk (Zo["o]l.), the marsh harrier. Moor hen. (Zo["o]l.) (a) The female of the moor fowl. (b) A gallinule, esp. the European species. See Gallinule. (c) An Australian rail (Tribonyx ventralis). Moor monkey (Zo["o]l.), the black macaque of Borneo (Macacus maurus). Moor titling (Zo["o]l.), the European stonechat (Pratinocola rubicola).

Zati a"ti, n. (Zo["o]l.) A species of macaque (Macacus pileatus) native of India and Ceylon. It has a crown of long erect hair, and tuft of radiating hairs on the back of the head. Called also capped macaque.

Macacus silenus
Wanderoo Wan`der*oo", n. [Cingalese wanderu a monkey.] (Zo["o]l.) A large monkey (Macacus silenus) native of Malabar. It is black, or nearly so, but has a long white or gray beard encircling the face. Called also maha, silenus, neelbhunder, lion-tailed baboon, and great wanderoo. [Written also ouanderoo.] Note: The name is sometimes applied also to other allied species.
